The Galtres Treehouse

It’s very hard not to feel like the king or queen of a wooden castle at Galtres Treehouse. It sits within its own little pocket of wood, overlooking 50 acres of ancient parkland, not far from a stately home. The setting is phenomenal, and yet, we’ve just begun.
The interior of the space is huge, with light and airy wood-panelled luxury to lounge around in, whether that’s dining with a view from the French doors or settling down with a book by the wood burner. Outside, beyond the gigantic deck, you find the firepit for warming yourself while you’re star-spotting, and the historic, brick-lined swimming pond, fed by a fresh spring, perfect for pairing with the sauna. There’s also an outdoor bathtub and deck chairs to dry off on, as any stress evaporates.
In August you can explore the stately home, and the award-winning gardens are open for wandering at any time of year, but there’s also plenty to do nearby, like market towns, a visit to trendy, foodie York and the North York Moors National Park for miles of scenic hiking.

Venture into historic York (9 miles) to admire the famous minster and wander the narrow medieval streets of the Shambles, pausing to browse in the shops or dine out. Head 6 miles to the Howardian Hills National Landscape for long walks through spectacular scenery. Plan a day trip to Castle Howard, 11 miles away, to tour the country house and wander through its landscaped gardens. Journey 25 miles into Harrogate to pamper yourselves at the renowned Turkish baths.
Let yourselves into this gorgeous, 17th-century cottage to find welcoming accommodation that blends character and style. Wander through to the spacious, light-filled lounge, with its dual-aspect windows, plantation shutters and colourful, comfortable seating. Light the open fire in here on cooler days then help yourself to a book from the shelves to read or cuddle up on the sofa to watch TV. Make yourselves a cup of tea in the kitchen to enjoy with the freshly baked slice of Yorkshire parkin you have bought or pour yourselves a glass of wine to sip as you cook. You will find all you need in here to help you whip up delicious meals for two. As day turns to night, climb the stairs to your delightful bedroom, with its sage green panelled walls and polished wooden floor. Run a warming bubble bath in the freestanding tub in the en-suite before laying your head on your pillow for the perfect night’s sleep.
